Adults

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Adult Program provides workforce investment activities that increase the employment, retention, and earnings of participants, which will improve the quality of the workforce, reduce welfare dependency, and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the economy.

WIETS is funded through state and federal money. Training and employment services are readily available and at no cost to an eligible job seeker.

Adults may be eligible for services if they are out of work or underemployed, over age 18, and whose incomes fall within established guidelines.

Dislocated Workers

A Dislocated Worker is an individual who has lost employment due to plant closings/relocation or a significant reduction in force and is unlikely to return to their previous employer. The strategy of the WIA Dislocated Worker Program is to respond rapidly when layoffs are announced and to deliver services to meet the needs of the individual. These services may include various types of training and other assistance that will allow the worker to re-enter the workforce at a wage and in a position commensurate with their skills and abilities.

IMPACT

A portion of WIETS efforts are directed toward helping those receiving welfare to get back into the workforce with the skills needed to hold good jobs. WIETS operates the Indiana Manpower Placement and Comprehensive Training (IMPACT) Programs in Parke, Clay and Putnam counties.Substantial funding has been made available to help those on assistance to get the necessary training to gain viable employment.
