| The offense that I run is called the Double Wing. It is a sort of "Smash Mouth" football with a lot of misdirection thrown in. An offense not reliant on long TD runs but on long TD drives. Not reliant on having the fastest runner in the world, but on getting more blockers to the Point of Attack that the defense can have and pounding out 3-5 yards a carry. As Woody Hayes would say, "Three yards and a cloud of dust". I first began reading about the Double Wing in 2001 and taken by it right away. It looked like the perfect offense to run at the youth level. Simple to learn but powerful to run. And it went against the norm of most youth offenses that relied heavily on the sweep to generate offense. And since the sweep is such a large part of youth football, defenses are designed to stop the sweep, which makes the off-tackle style of offense that the Double WIng is built around that much more effective. I continued looking into the offense throughout the 2001 and 2002 seasons. As the 2003 season approached, we realized that we had NO speed at running back of which to speak of. We had plenty of tough runners, but no one with any break away speed. So, this seemed to be the perfect time to implement the Double Wing offense. The result? Third in the league in scoring out of 28 teams and a 9-2 record with the only losses coming to the eventual league champs and the league runner-ups. Not bad considering we had the slowest backfield in the league. Success continued into the 2004 season where we were once again third in the league in scoring and finished with a 12-1 record. We had another great year in 2005 finishing the regular season at 10-0 and again tops in the league in offense. And these records were not due to just a couple of ballcarriers. Rather in each of the last two seasons 13 different kids have found the endzone. A fact that I am very proud of. Needless to say, I plan on the Double Wing being my offense for a long time.
