WASHOOS ASSOCIATION OF NORTH AMERICA
May Charity Classic Pro-Am
August 5, 2005
Information Links:
Eleven individuals gathered on Friday August 5 to partake in the 1st annual May Charity Classic Pro-Am.  The venue was perfect with a well trimmed level field surface, ample seating, and side lighting that did not favour either box.   The participants included 4 past champions, many seasoned veterans, and 3 Washoo tournament rookies.  Teams were randomly selected and play began at 7:30 pm.
Tournament champions, Tina May and Kevin Shonk, defeated Mike May and Ellen Braiden in a  drawn out, dimly lit final match 11-3.
Tournament highlight of the night goes to the host Mike May, who after scoring a 'sweet' (a pipe and 3 boxes) went on a celebratory running lap of the 100 acre May backyard.  This may have proved to be an unwise move as he was not able to duplicate is early throwing success as fatigue set in later in the tournament.
Other highlights included the first ever 11-0 walloping delivered by Trevor Braiden and Lindsey Cave to an unsuspecting pairing of Siobhan Shonk and Rob MacBeth (Siobhan contends that this was NOT the 'first-ever' 11-0 match, she says that she has certainly been beaten 11-0 before!).
Washoo rookie Danielle took no time at all to show that she will be a force in future Washoo tournaments as her strong play impressed the onlooking crowd.

3 unofficial protests were launched:
1 - Rookie Danielle called Mike May on a foot violation on a throw that was a pipe.  There was no photographic evidence or other witnesses so the throw stood.
2 - Trevor Braiden had concerns about the tournament bracket (or lack of one) feeling that his team deserved an opportunity at the winners side even after losing their first match.  Especially after delivering the first ever 11-0 win.
3 - Mike May (Finalist) complained of lack of lighting for the final match, claiming this to be a direct disadvantage for people who wear glasses.  [WANA lawyers will handle this case due to the possible discrimination? implications]
* all protests are unofficial at this time and require formal submissions via the formal protest documents.

Tournament results:
1. Tina May / Kevin Shonk
2. Mike May / Ellen Braiden
3. Dave Frazer / Rookie Danielle
4. Lindsey Cave / Trevor Braiden
5. Rob MacBeth / Siobhan Shonk
