The Long and Winding Road that Leads to Your Door,  December 14, 2004

well, here i am back from CB.  it was a great time i must say.  it's wierd being back this time though, because every other time i came back i knew i was heading out there again.  this time it will be a few months before i get to see my dearest .  :(  and that, to put it frankly, sucks.

The night i got back from CB i had a gig at The Spur (local SJ bar..).  I got off the bus (11 hours of riding) dropped my luggage home and went straight to the bar.  strange night, strange audience, but it's still good to be playing in front of people.  i have a few more gigs lined up, and they're listed in the music section of the page.  hee hee.   i also got a new guitar recently to facilitate playing and recording.  she's a beaut...but still doesn't have a name yet.  any suggestions?  drop a hint in my guestbook.  ;)

Christmas is fast approaching and me and my brother were planning a little get together on the 18th, but it seems everyone and their dogs are having a party then, so we're thinking about having it just after Christmas and before New Years.  More info will follow.....

Finished Halo 2 this morning.  I just have one question.  what were the guys at Bungie thinking when they wrote that damn ending?????  Sorry to spoil it for you folks who don't know, but I'm saving you the trouble and horrible pain of seeing it.  It is terrible.  it ends just as you think a new level is coming.  my hands were on the controller getting ready for what i thought would be the final level and suddenly the credits started rolling.  the only explanation i can think of is that a manager snuck into the office while the programmers were on coffee break and decided to "wrap it up."  let me say again:  this is terrible and if the X-Box had been mine it would have gone out the window, hopefully hitting some poor kid hence preventing him from going home and finishing the same game.  blah.  luckily the multiplayer kicks all kinds of ass!

in other news i think i'm developing super human powers..more on this in the next update....

i listen to the wind, to the wind of my soul        Decmeber 19, 2004

i got up really late today.  obscenely late.  but i have an excuse, i was up really late last night painting the entranceway of our apartment.  it's taking a while to do because there is a lot of molding.  should be able to finish it in another day...whew..
picked up Return of the King:  Extended Edition this week.  At 4 hours and 10 minutes its quite a marathon, but worth it.  There are only a few things in it that wasn't neccesary.  most of the new scenes were fantastic!  My brother and i went halfs on Return of the King for Xbox, but i haven't  even picked up the controller yet, having been too busy with the aforementioned painting..yikes!
i'm hosting Open Mic at he Spur on Wednesday night so everyone should come out and make my job easier by playing some tunes...hehe.

still missing my special someone.  especially with christmas coming up and everything.  very much wishing i could be there...

hmm...what else has been happening in the land of kevin...?

hmmm...

oh, there was a guy peeing on my front door a few nights ago.  the joys of living downtown...

oohh...i've become addicted to Puzzle Pirates.
it's an online community of pirates where you sail ships and attack other boats and everything is done with puzzles.  it's pretty fun i must say and very addictive.  i mean, why play Bejewled on Popcap when you could be playing the same type thing while dresed as a pirate and earning booty to buy things for your pirate??  tee hee!  or should i say yo ho ho!

well, i'l wrap it up there i think.  i've realized that my entries in this have become much more factual then they used to be.  weren't my entries half sentimental and philosophical last year??  hmm...maybe it's because i'm not working at Needs any more....ummm....or maybe not..it may have to do with a lack of sunrises.  i saw the sun rise most days last winter and now i'm living mostly in the dark.....

oh and re: my new found superpowers...it was a false alarm.  i cannot move objects with my mind after all...damn...

and yes, i've been "hmmmming" an awful lot in this entry.  i'll try to cut back for next time.

and yes... i abuse the elipse... i blame Steve for this...

The Adventures of New DVD Smell and Kevin vs The Internet       Decmeber 31, 2004

well, it's New Years eve.  woop dee do.  Not very excited about it this year.  Christmas came and went and it was fine. I actually tried updating this page twice over the last week, but both both times i got a program error on my machine and all open programs had to shut down.  Pretty frustrating.  so i totally abandoned that update and waited for the hatred of the internet to die down before trying another one.  this seems to be going pretty smooth.  so keep your fingers crossed.  I've also got infected with some nasty computer stuff that won't go away.  A few links on my desktop are being really stubborn and not deleting.  arghh.  i spent a good portion of yesturday downloading anti-virus and adware programs.  not much help yet.  but we'll see what happens.

yes.  new DVD smell.  there's something about it.  Especially when it's Season Seven of Buffy the VAmpire Slayer.  If you have read my past posts you'll know that Buffy got me through some tough times.  I'm very glad to have the final season.  I can finally find out how it all ends!  hee hee.  I picked it up two nights ago and I'm already on the fifth disk (of six)! oh yeah!

Still speaking of movies, did anyone know that there is a Chronicles of Narnia movie in the works?  WETA Workship are handling creature and weapon/armour design.   I really hope ti turns out okay.  it'd be a shame to ruin it.  Also I wish i could say i was excited about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but i'm not really.  I like Johnny Depp, but the preview I've seen for this he just doesn't look like he siuts the role.  I hope I get proved wrong, but i think the Burton/Depp combo is just not right for this project.  I caught Phantom of the Opera a few nights ago.  They'll be a review up in Dice and Cup pretty soon.  I'll just say here that it was a bit of a dispointment.  And this is coming from someone who loves the musical.

what else, what else what else....hmm....

i'm writing a radio play right now called "well, you know."  it's going pretty good and i'm  kinda excited about it.

still missing my sweetheart.  Especially today.

well that's it i guess.  i'll wrap it up here.  oh, one more thing:  Happy Birhtday MOM!  (in case you read this...)

Pain in the Neck and a Game Review       January 15, 2005

well, it's been a while since my last post.  sorry about that.   so what's been happening??  well, a lot of the same really.  i guess.  I had a gig last night at the Spur.  It went well.  a lot of friends stopped by so that was good.  the place was packed.  hardly room to move. wish i could say they were there to see me, but the Spur has the cheapest tequila downtown and these were all university students...hehe.  i can make generalizations like that since i graduated.  hehe..  all in all it was a good night.  it was my last booked gig.  i'm waiting to hear back from another bar called The Attic about a Thursday night gig.  they just haven't told me what Thursday it's gonna be.  bleh.   The night started really bad because the pickup in my new guitar is malfunctioning.  i don't know what's wrong with it, but i'm gonna have to put it in the shop.  gross. i had to use the bar's pickup which looks like a 17th century torture device.  luckily my guitar came away from that encounter unscathed.
a few days ago as i was walking home with my groceries, i slipped on the ice and twisted my neck.  a day and a half of tremendous pain followed.  i'm still really sore, but not as bad.  i was afraid i wouldn't be healed up for last night, but it went fine.
well, i'm on the hunt for a new computer.  a casual hunt that is.  just checking prices for laptops.  since i've got two moves coming up, having a big honkin desktop is just not going to cut it.  i'm thinking i'll sell the desktop and look for a notebook of equivelent (or better) abilities.  i've been looking at Dell notebooks online.  they look pretty good...but i think i'll be shopping around for a while yet just to find the best deal.

The Lord of the Rings:  The Third Age is not quite as addictive as i first thought.  It's a strange little game.  it has all the apperance of a Final Fantasy game set in Middle Earth; but it lacks a certain depth.  The Graphics are beautiful, as with the score.  Menus are really nice and easy to use.  But there is something missing.  Tolkien's Middle Earth has always posed a problem for RPGers simply because of a lack of location.  The landscape isn't dotted with towns and cities like a standard fantasy world.  that makes designing a game like this difficult.  as a result, Third Age is more combat than roleplaying.  A lot of wandering around and fighting bad guys to accomplish quests.  there is a bit of interplay between characters which is cool, but it could use a little more.  i will say that the designers were VERY clever in how they interwove the game characters with the events of the movie.  it's pretty neat.  But it's not a game i can get totally involved in and play until finishing.  After you finish a level, you kinda want to stop and take a break before starting again.  it's been a few days for me since i've touched it.  Time wise, it's a good length for a quasi-rpg..so far i'm at 20 hours and about %55 through.  not bad.

i  got to talk to my very special someone on the phone tonight.  it was wonderful to hear her voice.  anybody know of any cheap flights to England??  Anybody? i'd be willing to fly cargo...

well, i guess close it up there for now.  i'll try to get the next update up much sooner.  i know there are at least a couple of people who check this thing regularily. :)

Two and a Half Months Later  June 07, 2005

well, i blame livejournal for my lack of updating this site.  :)  this will probably be my last update before the summer really kicks in.  I'm moving to Trinity on the 18th to start the season and  out there i won't have any internet.  bleh.  occasssionaly i'll be back in town and can check email, etc. but that will be it.
so what's been happening the last two and a half months?  lets try to do it in a few sentences.  well, point form anyways...
?- moved out of the apartment and back with the folks until the move to Trinity
- had a wonderful wonderful visit with my sweetheart, plus a trip with her to meet her family in Halifax.
- she's now gone to live in London and i'm very lonely
-  playing lots of LAN games of Warcraft 3.whooo hoo.
- finally reached the 100 mark on my DVDs.
- hmm, can't think of anything else at the moment, mostly cause i'm sick.  blech..

two final gigs coming up this weekend on the 10th and the 11th.  that's friday and saturday.  Friday is at the Ship. I'm one of three acts and it's a benefit for the Peace-a-Chord.  Saturday is a solo gig at the Spur and will likely be my last gig for a while since after Trinity i'm planning on moving to London.  So if you're around come on down!

"Finally, the Story" is quickly getting wrapped up.  This is a comic i've been working on for a while and posting on DeviantArt.  i really want to have it down before i leave for the summer.  that said, i'm planning to re-do the whole thing once it's finished.  basically to add colour and work on the formatting.

well, i think i'll wrap it up there. i'll try to do another update during the summer if i come in.  but in the meantime you can check out my livejournal.  my user name is:  beckett_poser.
