Keswick was founded in 1952 as the Grace Livingston Hill School. In 1961, the ownership changed, and the school became known as Keswick Christian. At that time, the Keswick radio stations and Southern Keswick Bible Conference were added to a campus that grew to 27 acres.
Since I graduated in 1985, the school has gone through a lot of changes. It added football a few years ago, which moved it out of the fall soccer program. This is sad, because the rivalry between Keswick, Lakeland Christian, and Tampa Prep was always a good one.
I always thought that championship team would have competed well with any of the bigger schools in the winter soccer program. Again, after covering high school soccer for the past 12 years, I know we could have competed.
Incidentally, speaking of Tampa Prep, they recently began play in winter soccer and competed quite favorably in a district which includes state champions CCC and Berkeley and state finalist Tampa Catholic. The Terps made it to the state playoffs in their first year.
Keswick is now in the midst of a building campaign to create a new "signature" building for the 21st century. If you would like to contribute, contact the school at 10101 54th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, Florida 33708-3498.
