To be honest, the state finals were not so tough as the 1-0 district final win over Tampa Prep.

We had played a very poor game a few weeks earlier to tie MacLay 2-2, and we were itching to get another shot at them.  We watched the movie "Victory" before the game, it it got us pumped up.

We came out and clobbered them 5-0. I doubt they have been beaten as badly before or since.

Then, there was the final against University School, whom we knew nothing about. It was a cold, windy day, and I remember having trouble breathing and how much it hurt to head the ball.

We were struggling a bit at first, and they were very fast on the wings.  They put me up at midfield; so we had like 5-6 in the midfield at a time.  It totally stifled their attack.

Matt was used as a decoy to set up the second goal.  It was beautiful to see all the defenders follow him and leave Dave alone at the top of the box.  If they had scouted us, they would have known we were more than a one-man team.  Dave has a deadly shot, and he buried it.  It could have been Drew, Chris, Mike, Tom, Kevin, or about half a dozen other players too.  We had a lot of capable scorers.
