Kent Team 2002 - the Facts and Stats Everyone's got their own view on how the team did in 2002. Where we did well, where we can improve, who should stay and who should go. Well here's my end of term report for the lads. Feel free to agree or disagree. . . . For a table of averages click here. Mark Ealham Didn't live up to standards of past seasons. Half decent season a lot of room for improvement. Hopefully a benefit season in 2003 will not distract him from getting back to his match- turning best. 7/10 Matthew Fleming Good one-day season with both bat and ball. Great team player and and good season as one-day captain. Kent will be hard pushed to find an able replacement for 2003. 7/10 David Fulton Unsurprisingly couldn't match his 2001 stats but certainly came close. His captaincy was steady and consistent in his first season. Room for improvement in 2003 though. Lets just hope that the sole captaincy of both championship and one day cricket does not affect his batting. 9/10 James Golding Strange season - another player that maybe deserved a second chance. 3/10 Jamie Hewitt Finding it hard to break into the first team. 3/10 James Hockley Hard year. Harsh he was released where others have been given a second chance. 2/10 Geraint Jones Great start to his Kent career. Has a lot to prove in order to convince the Kent faithful that he is an able replacement for Nico. 8/10 Robert Key Another player that was able to carry his 2001 form into the 2002 season. Deserved his England call-up but will have to stop the trend of getting out after making a half decent start. 10/10 Amjad Khan Another excellent season. Shame about those no-balls. . . . . 9/10 David Masters Hasn't lived up to his original promise. An average season with lots of room for improvement in 2003. 4/10 Paul Nixon Great season, great wicket keeping, great team player, rubbish Kent management. 9/10 Min Patel Good year with both bat and ball. Hard to have his efforts recognised when living in the shadow of Khan and Saggers. 7/10 Martin Saggers Unbelievably not picked for the India series or the Ashes tour. Another great season with the ball. 10/10 Ed Smith Good, consistent season. Just missed out on top run taker for Kent in 2002. Under-used in one-day cricket. 8/10 Andy Symonds Didn't shine spectacularly - decent results here and there. Good team player and motivator. 6/10 James Tredwell Good start Kent career and looks at home in the first xi. Handy batsman and very unfortunate not to go to the England academy this winter after being on the original short-list. 7/10 Ben Trott Spent most of the season on the physios couch and in the 2nds. Didn't see enough of him to make a judgement which probably says it all. 2/10 Matt Walker Sub-standard season and lucky to be given a second (fifth!) chance for next season. He'll have his work cut out to prove a lot of people wrong. 3/10 Steve Waugh Half decent scores. Not entirely sure he was worth the money paid out to him but gave Kent a lot of publicity. Hopefully has passed on some captaincy advice to Fulton. 7/10
