Kent v Essex - Kleinwort Benson Cricket Challenge 2002 This cricket tournament, held in Guernsey, was first started 9 years ago in association with the Lord's Taverners. In the first game of its kind Hampshire CCC took on Durham CCC. The winner of each match then returns a year later (in theory!) where they play host to another county side to defend their title. Essex, last year, defeated Surrey - who did little else but embarrass themselves by their behaviour. . . apparently. So this year they thought they better take a more professional (!) outfit along in the form of Kent CCC. In a particularly one sided affair Kent came out on top and now return next year where they play host to Somerset. In a team packed with bowlers the Kent team were able to hold Essex down to a low total and an explosive half century from Amjad Khan, with help from Min Patel, meant that Kent were never behind the run rate and won with many overs to spare. I would give the exact stats for the match an' all that. . . but. . . well. . .Smirnoff Ice had taken over by the time I thought about picking up a pen and writing them all down. I did, however, have the memory span to recall the team the next day: The Kent Team: Mark Ealham (capt), Andy Bray, Rob Ferley, Amjad Khan, Kevin (yes Kevin - the Dad of David!) Masters, Min Patel, Martin Saggers, Phil Simmons (guesting), James Tredwell, Ben Trott, Alan Wells, Simon Willis (wkt). Should make for a good match next year. Previous Results
