NEWS - Kenny Chesney Looks
Forward To Second Year On George Strait Tour (4/21/00, 4 p.m. ET) The George Strait Chevy Truck Country Music Festival will kick off Saturday, April 29 at the Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. George will be joined by Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Mark Chesnutt, Lee Ann Womack, Asleep At The Wheel, and -- for the second year in a row -- Kenny Chesney. LAUNCH spoke with Chesney about the upcoming 10-date tour: "I can't wait," he enthused. "Last year, I was on it and that was the most fun I've ever had on the road -- in seven years of being on the road. George just treated us great, and I was just thrilled to death to be asked to come back. I get to tour with Tim again and we just have a ball out there. It's gonna be a lot of fun again this year. It's gonna be great." The second show of the tour will take place at Adelphia Coliseum in Nashville. This is the first time the George Strait tour has stopped in Nashville since the event's inception three years ago. It's also been quite a while since Chesney played in Nashville, as he told us: "I haven't done a show in Nashville in a long time. About six years ago, we did a New Year's Eve show at the Wildhorse, but we haven't done a show here in Nashville since then -- especially anything this big -- and so, yeah, it's great to be able to play in Adelphia Coliseum and play in front of thousands of people. And to be able to come to Nashville and play like this is definitely the way to do it, no doubt about it." The George Strait Country Music Festival will wrap up in Houston on June 11. NEWS - Kenny Chesney Packs Greatest
Hits Package With Memories (8/24/00, 12 p.m. ET) - When Kenny Chesney's GreatestHits package hits store shelves on September 26, it will contain more than just 17 songs. For him, the album contains memories of a specific period of time in his life. "The other day I was sitting and listening to this Greatest Hits album, and it is pretty wild because I have been doing this since1993," he tells LAUNCH. "It is kind of cool because there is astory behind each song and a memory about where I was in my career and what we were doing at the time. So it is a pretty cool thing." The album includes his hits "Me And You," "You Had Me FromHello," "All I Need To Know," ""How Forever Feels," "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy," as well as four new songs. Kenny says that each song holds a special meaning for him, but that one song specifically made this album possible. "I have a lot of favorites because 'When I Close My Eyes' was my first Number One record, so that would obviously be a very special song for me. 'You Had Me From Hello' was a very special song because it was my first Number One that I wrote," he says. "If I had to pick any significant song on this Greatest Hits record that probably made the greatest hits record possible was 'Me And You.'"
NEWS - Kenny Chesney Breaks
Life-Long Thanksgiving Tradition (11/22/00, 7 a.m. ET) - Kenny Chesney will break a long-standing tradition this Thanksgiving when he joins labelmates Sara Evans and Jennifer Day to promote the Maytag "Making Music Matter" tour in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City instead of spending the day at home with his family. This is the first time Chesney has been away from home for the Thanksgiving holiday. "It's kind of bittersweet for me, really, because in 32 years of living, I've never been away from my grandmother's house on Thanksgiving day," he tells LAUNCH, "and now I'm not gonna be there this year. But for thirty-something years I've sat on the couch and watched the Macy's Day parade, going, 'Well, that would be cool to do that!' So I'm gonna go do that this year. I'm gonna try to fly home after that and go home for Thanksgiving. Maybe they'll eat at night this year--work everybody's schedule around mine." The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade airs on Thursday (November 23) morning on NBC. --Margy Holland, Nashville
NEWS - Kenny Chesney
Takes Hard-Earned Xmas Break (12/6/00, 10 a.m. ET) - Kenny Chesney is understandably worn out from constant touring this year. But his effort paid off in selling millions of albums and landing chart-topping hits. LAUNCH spoke with Chesney about how the year 2000 treated him. "This year has been the most exhausting, most wonderful [of my] career," he said. "I mean, it's been a bittersweet year. My career has been better than it's ever been this year. It's been awesome--to do the [George] Strait) tour again, for my Everywhere We Go album to go double platinum, to have another number one record, to grow our fanbase like we have--but with all that, you have to get reacquainted with your family and your friends, and that's a very bittersweet thing." Chesney has finished touring for the year, and is headed for a well-deserved vacation, as he told us. " I'm looking very forward to going on vacation at the first of December," he said, "but then, going back home and leaving the music business behind for a little while, and just getting reacquainted with my family. That's what Christmas means to me now--I get to go home and hang out with them and get fat for a month and not watch what I eat." Chesney's first concert of the new year will be in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the Thompson Boling Arena on February 16. His current single, "I Lost It," holds the Number Seven spot on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. -- Margy Holland, Nashville
