Watercolours are a particularly British sort of medium and Im hardly a master of them. When I stretch paper, it cockles., and when it doesnt, some pillock is sure to fold it or spill coffee on it. I do love working with the watercolours though; the translucency of the wash and the brightness of the paper are everything, and the tonality the medium affords lends itself to painting all sorts of subjects.

This is a bakers shop which existed in Paris at the end of the 19th century. I painted it as a study in perspective. This is H.M.S. Victory, Admiral Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1804. I used pictures and a model to get this dolphin's eye view. I don't think I'll specialise as a marine water colourist although I don't think this will be the last ship I paint.... This is the living room of my old appartement in Fougeres, which was centrally heated. I laid the carpet and papered the walls myself.

The Bakers Shop in Paris. August 2001

I associate this landscape with Princess Diana although I haven't a clue why!

A Peculiar English Landscape. 2001.

I suppose everybody wishes they had a lot of bread, but sometimes just enough is plenty.

This baker shop looked like so many others in France. I miss France a lot. I liked living there, and good bread is one of the things I miss most. You can buy French bread here but the price is exorbitant.

It was 35 degrees into the mercury on the day we redecorated the flat......

I can feel a chill breeze upon my cheek and taste clean air in my lungs in this landscape.

English Landscape. Watercolour  2001

I always associate this with Princess Diana, possibly due to the location, a landscape suggested by a scene on a television screen.
