Fielcamaradath's Flight

Fiel' had not done as well as he could have hoped in his first flight, but he had gained valuable experience. He felt that he had enough experience to catch Neòn'.

And then the letter from Deira arrived.

R'hiin carefully untied the letter from the little blue flit Deira had adopted since she'd left and written to R'hiin about.

R'hiin read the letter over once, then again. Fiel' wasn't all that concerned, Fiel' often did that with Deira's letters. He'd read it once more, and then bundle it up with every other letter Deira'd ever sent him.

But this time, R'hiin broke habit. Fiel' was worried.

R'hiin walked over to Fiel' and stood beside him for a long time, staring at the letter, but not really reading it. Then he said softly, "Fiel'..."

Fiel' cocked his head, What is it, rider-mine?

R'hiin was quite for a moment, "Neòn' rose. Back home, at Nidus Otykaii. Apparently Reikaee started up a Nidus, even though there technically isn't anyone to lead it, or enough Draconars to man it."

Neòn' rose? And didn't tell me?

R'hiin frowned sadly, "Well, she's told us now..."

But why didn't she have Deira tell us that she was going to rise! I would have come to chase her even if Nalilath hadn't risen yet... Fiel' sounded so broken and sad it hurt R'hiin, Why did she do this R'hiin?

R'hiin hugged his dragon tightly, "I don't know, Fiel'," he said into the brown's neck. "We could go ask her...?"

Fiel' was quiet for a long time, No... I don't think so, R'hiin. Neònachcùth has obviously forgotten me, so I shall forget her.

Fiel', being a dragon, couldn't cry, so R'hiin did it for him.

Neònachcùth's Flight

Neònachcùth had not been a quiet dragon. The entire time she was proddy she paced restlessly, all over the part of the Palace that was the temporary home of the Nidus, looking to the sky every other minute, sending her rider, half-husky Deira, to check the flightboards for new males at least once an hour, and keeping track of the coming of any dragon even remotely close to the Nidus.

On the few occasions that the pacing hadn't been enough for the green, she'd grabbed Deira and done her duty as the Nidus' only Capio. However, today, even doing this duty had not done anything to relieve Neòn'.

When the proddy green returned with her latest Novo, she turned to her rider and demanded, Deira, who are my chasers?

Deira sighed and recited from memory, "Brown Herionth, Blue Zegth and Rain Culbith," it had been the same for the last several weeks.

But I thought I saw two strapping gentlemen of dragons coming in this morning… Check the flightboard?

Deira sighed, this was not the first time that Neònachcùth had stated that she'd seen dragons coming in, when there hadn't been anyone new. But the half-husky went to check the 'board for her bond. When she got there, she blinked in surprise. You have got some new chasers, Neòn', she stated, Blue-Purple-Pink 'Dusk' Tateth, and Blue Zuheilenth.

Really... Neònachcùth purred. I'd return to your nidulus if I were you, Deira, the green stated.

"What? Neòn'!" and then the green was in the air.

The two newcomers, blue-purple-pink Tateth, and blue Zuheilenth, less than a day arrived, were the first to notice Neòn's accent, accompanied as it was by her challenging bugle. The brothers, brown Herionth and blue Zegth were the next to the air, followed finally by the slightly out of shape rain Culbith.

When Neòn' had gained what she deemed to be sufficient height, she reversed on herself, with the grace that only a green possessed and dove through her pursuers, wings tucked tight to her body. When she passed Herionth and Zegth, who were flying nearly parallel, she lashed out with her wings, hitting both the dragons heavily. I will not be the prize of some brotherly contest! she shrieked into the minds of the brothers. The brown and blue peeled off, startled both by Neòn's attack and the vehemence of her voice.

Neòn's momentum slammed her headlong into the rain Culbith, but the green had been prepared for this, and pushed off from the rain with all four legs, sending the poor blue back down to the comfort of his rider after the brothers.

Using the sudden change of direction Neòn' took to the high sky again, above her last two chasers, glancing over her shoulder, Neòn' suddenly found herself looking only at Blue-Purple-Pink Tateth. So you are the only one left, she snarled at the multi-hued dragon, Do not think that this makes you the winner by default! You still need to catch me!

Neòn' surged off in a dizzying pattern of zig-zags, loops and dives. Tateth remained close to the green, but her profound disappointment, he didn't follow her exactly, and he had slowly been gaining on her. While she was pondering what her next tactic would be, and sudden blur of blue in front of her brought her up short, her last chaser, Zuheilenth, had circled around in front of her!

Neòn' backwinged instantly, whirling around, her only thought was to avoid the grasp of the too-close blue. Only to find herself caught tight in the grasp of the Blue-Purple-Pink who had been just behind her.

Neònachcùth sighed as she twined with Tateth, happy, for the first time in months. Far below the pair, their riders were in a similar position, Deira similarly happy…

Fielcamaradath's Flight Con't

Fiel' and R'hiin surveyed Seiryuu Weyr from above, This is a nice place, Fiel' commented, And that gold there is accepting brown chasers.

This is where Deira got her chibi flit... it might be interesting to see if I could get one as well... But I'm not sure if I could take care of it as well as Rhehoku and Umeki...

You'll have plenty of time to decide, Fiel' assured his bond, before decending into the Weyr.

Kortaein's Flight

Kortaein had grown from a scrawny hatchling who had taken over a month to hatch, to a strapping young dragon, about the size of Fielcamaradath. Deira steered her thoughts away from the brown. Neònachcùth was getting impatient with her clutch, and was liable to be irritable about the entire episode. Though, the green had settled down considerably after mating with Tateth, in fact, to Deira and Kortaein, a fact that Kortaein didn't hesitate at rubbing in Neò's snout.

The young Starry Blue-Purple (as he'd decided to call himself), had heard a fair amount about this 'Fielcamaradath' character, and to be honest, Kortaein thought he'd like the guy. After all, if he ticked Neò off that much, he had to be a good guy. Neò was such a prune.

However, other than Neò, Kortaein was starting to realize that dragonesses weren't all that bad. A fact that Deira hadn't failed to notice. And with Neò on the sands, Deira didn't know what she was going to do when Kortaein decided that he'd like to chase. How was she going to divide her time between her dragons with one on the sands and one preparing to chase... It wasn't like she could just abandon one of them to their own devices. Neò would tear the whole city apart with her temper and Deira would never wish Kortaein's energy on any unsuspecting agency.

Kortaein, however, didn't seem to be fretting over it as much as Deira. In fact, when he was discussing it with his rider on their daily fly (Deira always made time to spend at least half and hour in the air with each of her bonds), he said simply, and much to the surprise of his rider. I think I'm going to chase. Ainoth, that beautiful cream-pink who came in a few days ago has her name up on the flight boards. Her cream-pink will look beautiful with my purple-blue-green. Deira could hear the grin in his 'voice', We'd have beautiful multi-coloured babies.

And that was that. As soon as Deira was back on the ground again, she signed Kortaein up for Ainoth's flight on her way back to the hatching grounds.

Kortaein's chasing Cream-Pink Ainoth at Nidus Otykaii.
