AV-98 or Ingram was the first labor built specially to deal with labor crimes. It’s appearance was designed to deliver psychological impact on the enemy.

Special Vehicle 2 received 3 units of AV-98; the first 2 units were piloted by Izumi Noa (unit 1) and Isao Ohta (unit 2), while the third one was kept in the hangar as a backup, and occasionally used by Kanuka.

There’s no big difference between the first 2 units. But when SV2 were on their first mission (which was to capture a terrorist labor), Ohta carelessly lose his labor’s head and severely damaged the labor’s body while Noa’s unit 1 lose on of its arm. Later, the head and shoulders of unit 2 were changed with another design. The third however has a completely different head model. It also has an additional equipment, the ECM (Electronic Counter Measures). Each labor are equipped with small shield on it’s left arm.

These labors use rechargeable electric battery as the main power source. Nuclear power is definitely out of the question since the labor mainly used in city area.

There are two types of cockpit; inside the labor’s chest (which provides better protection for the pilot) and the upper cockpit (as you can see in the left picture).

AV-98 Ingram is equipped with some kind of “learning program”. It gains data and experience each time the labor goes into combat, so it can increase its ability. A pretty much like any common RPG game ^_^

Ingram’s gun is stored in its lower right leg, and the spare bullets in the left. The electric baton is hidden in Ingram’s left hand, behind the shield.

Another interesting equipment is a special gloves placed in the pilot’s cockpit. It makes the labor’s fingers to move exactly like the movements of the pilot’s fingers. Pretty useful for dealing with delicate missions (such as defusing bombs).

Additional equipment is the extra armor to protect internal parts when performing special mission. These armors were specially designed as flack jackets to give the Ingrams slightly more protection, mainly from regular labor’s weapon. However this protection is useless when military labor’s weapon is used.

Noa rarely uses her gun, instead she prefers hand-to-hand combat. So in overall, Alphonse movement is better than the other two. In the other hand, Ohta likes to fire guns, but often misses since most of the targets’ already knock him first.

Later in the series, Shinohara Heavy Industries produced the economy type of AV-98. These units were cheaper than the first model as some parts from the original were removed.

AV-98 (INGRAM)

AV-X0 (ZERO)

This type ZERO was planned to surpass the very successful type AV-98 as the future patrol labor. It was the first labor that took full advantage of the new OS called HOS (Hyper Operating System).

In the Ark incident, ZERO went berserk as it was infected by computer virus, and had to be shut down, but not after the fierce battle with Noa’s Alphonse. Later, the project was continued resulting the next generation patrol labor.

Based on the prototype labor ZERO, the Peacemaker adds to the line up of patrol labor. Like all new models, Peacemaker is generally stronger than it’s predecessor, the AV-98 Ingram in terms of speed, response, power, and accuracy.

Peacemaker is the first labor that use the Neuron Network System, a software which provides greater accuracy and speed while keeping collateral damage to a minimum. This helps when the labor fights in urban area to avoid damage to nearby buildings and vehicles.

The revolver cannon is stored in the left part of it’s chest. Peacemaker can also detach the shield to gain more mobility. The lower part of its arms can be extended, which gives more range during hand-to-hand combat.

SV1 finally got the chance to have decent patrol labor when 2 units of Peacemaker were assigned to them.

Type J-9 Griffon (also known as the black labor) was secretly made for experimental purposes (such as developing other types of future labor) by Schaft Enterprise Japan. In order to do so, Griffon must collect data by fighting another labor, and in this case, Noa’s Ingram was the obvious choice.

It is clear that Griffon is superior to other labors by means of specification. It is a powerful, accurate and fast labor, and even has the ability to fly and dive underwater, which was unusual at that time.
