Homeward R Us
Dear everyone,
Will wonders never cease? Even though we never completely figured out
what was the cause of Travis' problems, what we DO know is that they seem
to be GONE! Never a fan of drugs, myself, I've become one of the converted
that these are truly medical miracles. From 5 days ago, with a boy doubled
over and moaning in pain, to this child who is laughing and insisting on
packing up his hospital room as I type, it is a miracle.
Our best guesses now are that Travis does have GVHD (which steroids are
beating back again) and he does have C-Diff (a virus that they detected
when he started with diarrhea yesterday -- treated with Flagel oral meds
every 6 hours for 10 days). Looks like the gall bladder was the location
of the problem, but not all the possiblities that they'd originally been
thinking. We keep telling ourselves to learn to be comfortable with the
ambiguity of BMT recovery. I don't know if we ever will be...
So this chapter is over. Onto the next -- home again. While I'm someone
who could sleep leaning against a wall, given the time, I can't tell you
how welcome our own beds at home will feel (speaking for all of us!).
Thank you, everyone, for all your prayers and support during this latest
complication. We were plenty scared at the beginning, and now are positively
bouyant that we get to go home much quicker than we had expected. Joe and
Spencer had gone home the night before last to get more things that we needed
and to let Spencer go to his preschool at home. So now, they're preparing
for our homecoming. Here we come!
More soon.
Love,
Melanie, Joe, Travis and Spencer |
