Task
The task your group is about to embark on has been delegated by President Johnson. The President has assembled your group in order to determine the feasibility of purchasing Alaska for the United States of America. President Johnson will be funding your expedition to Alaska. Each member of the group has now taken on his or her designated role of which they must complete the individual assignments. These roles include analyzing the Alaskan land value and natural resources, researching the geography, describing the lifestyle of the natives, and developing a comprehensive report persuading congress to either purchase Alaska or pass up this option. Each member of the team is responsible for researching the advantages and disadvantages of purchasing Alaska as described under their specific roles and to work on their individual assignments while continually collaborating with their group. This task can not be completed successfully unless each member of the team completes his or her individual tasks and works together by communicating effectively. After each member of the group has finished their individual assignments, the Communicator will compile the group’s evidence and develop a report to be given to Congress. The report should either support the purchase of Alaska or give ample reasons why it should not. The group will then be responsible for presenting their report to Congress (the teacher and the class), emphatically persuading the audience to agree with the group’s findings. Congress will then vote on whether or not to purchase Alaska. Your efforts will not go unrewarded if successfully completed. President Johnson wishes you well and hopes your mission will help his administration make the best solution for the nation and avoid making a mistake.
