Ate, pupunta ako sa ABS-CBN sa March! Makikita ko na rin si Jericho Rosales!
Youll often hear Cyhsi (pronounced as CC) say this line, with a wide smile and her hair swaying. Anyone would think that Cyhsi is a happy-go-lucky girl, with a penchant for anything to do with the Kapamilya TV network. She is easily perceived as a Jologs. When you enter our dorm room, youll easily spot Cyhsis bed its the one near the wall with the posters of celebrities.
But as her roommate, I find it ironic that shes interested in showbiz when she came from a distinguished family of academics. Exactly 19 years ago today, Sicilienne Barroga was born to Tony & Rocelyn Barroga in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija. Both have doctorate degrees and are professors of Agricultural Engineering at the Central Luzon State University. Cyhsi, short for her first name which she made her self, is the eldest of three daughters.
I sometimes ask myself how she became so interested in artistas when her parents are so reserved. They demand respect and awe whenever they speak because they sound so cultured. Theyre the type who travels abroad to study or to present papers.
I can tell from Cyhsi that she was brought up in a disciplined household, shes very good mannered and she loves to work. She prepares weeks in advance for her exams which works to her advantage because shes an Electronics and Communications Engineering major. Shes in her third year now and is a consistent College Scholar.
Shes also an active member of the Engineering Radio Guild (ERG). Everyday, she takes a few hours to hang out in their tambayan in the Engineering building. She recently starred in their organizations short film entitled, Kalina.
A lot of people are attracted to Cyhsis warm personality. Cyhsi is the type that continues to be bright and happy even though professors will throw a mountain of exams, problem sets and programming projects. As another dormer whose room is a door away from us would put it, Cyhsi is Little Miss Sunshine.
Despite her achievements, from winning oratorical contests to having her high school research project presented in Thailand, you wont really expect that shes this well accomplished when you see her in person. When you meet her at the streets, she would be waving even from afar and smiling like shes so happy to see you.
They say that UP students are smart and snobbish but Cyhsi is different. Shes so innocent to the point of navet that she will make you laugh. When she talks about her crushes or when youre teasing her, her deep voice transforms into high pitch.
Once you get to know her, youll see that shes a very loving and caring person. To help her parents with their expenses, even though they are financially stable, shes thrifty. Her ATM remains untouched and she would spend the money from her scholarship instead of using her allowance. When her schedule permits, she tutors or works at the Engineering library to earn extra income. She would find time to help her younger sisters in their studies.
While most of us desire to work right after graduation, Cyhsi is already planning to take up higher studies. Just like her parents, she would like to stay in the academe which she said, has blessed our lives so much.
Gusto kong makadagdag sa body of knowledge. Charot! Cyhsi mentioned to me before. She is still open to working for a while so that she can experience and get to know the real world but she vows to spend her life learning and teaching.
I can imagine a Post-Doctorate professor in Engineering screaming like a fan girl in a live ABS-CBN show 20 years from now.
