| Funeral of Wire Victim Funeral Services for Walter G. Leach, 15-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Leach of Glenwood Heights, who was instantly killed when he came into contact with a "live wire" yesterday afternoon, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family home. Rev A. B. Bennett, pastor of the Fulton M. E. church, will officiate and interment will be in Peninsula. Walter was employed by the Duvall grocery at Fulton as a delivery boy after school hours and was returning from a trip to Glenwood Heights in company with Ray Ridgely, another boy companion. The attention of the two boys was drawn to an old telephone wire which hung suspended a short distance above their heads . The Ridgely boy claims to have touched the wire with his hand and suffered no effects but when the Leach lad attempted to do the same thing, he was knocked to the ground. Smoke issuing from the body of the dead boy caused Ridgely to realize that the wires were not "dead" and he called for help and Charles Ross, who was near, rushed to the aid and finally succeeded in getting young Leach clear of the wire. The telephone wire had crossed high tension electric light wires. Surviving the dead boy, who was a student in the Fulton public school and a member of the eighth grade graduating class, are his parents, seven sisters and one brother: Mrs. Edgar Kellar, Mrs. Goldie Baker, Mrs. Lula Swan, Misses Bertha, Anna, and Irene Leach and James Leach. |
