KARAPATAN Members and Officers killed from June, 2001 – April, 2003

 

Cenon Montipon was abducted and killed on June, 2001 by CAFGU elements in Zamboanga del Norte. His body, retrieved from a shallow grave, bore 22 stab wounds.  Cenon was a Justice and Peace Worker in Zamboanga at the time of his death.

 

Milagros Belga, 41 years old was a KARAPATAN-Laguna volunteer worker, who was also a member of GABRIELA-Laguna as well as a BAYAN MUNA Coordinator in Brgy. Malinao, Magdalena, Laguna. She was repeatedly stabbed in different parts of her body by CAFGU elements in front of her four children on July 22, 2001. 

 

Felipe Lapa, 49 years old is the President of MFI (Milagros Farm Inc.) as well as a BAYAN MUNA Coordinator in Brgy. Sta. Lucia, Liliw, Laguna. He was fatally shot at the nape on October 25, 2001. 

 

Benjaline “Beng” Hernandez, 22 years old, deputy secretary general of KARAPATAN-SMR; Crisanto Amora – volunteer; Vivian Andrade – volunteer and Labaon Sinunday were massacred by elements CAFGU and the 12th Special Forces Coy of the 7th Airborne Battalion of the Philippine Army on April 5, 2002 in Arakan Valley, Cotabato.

 

Tirso Ebuenga, a 42 years old, peasant and overseer of a fishpond in Villarosa, was taking a nap, when he was shot at close range in his house in Bgy. Cabiguhan, Gubat on December 4, 2002.  Ebuenga was an active member of Sorsogon People's Organization, a KARAPATAN affiliate.

 

Mario Estocado, a 43 years old, peasant and in-house security guard of Duana Resort in Bgy. Rizal, Gubat, sustained 35 gunshot wounds from M-16 rifles fired at him by unidentified men on the night of December 27, 2002.  Estocado was an active member of KARAPATAN in Sorsogon.

 

Eden Marcellana, 28 years old, secretary general of KARAPATAN-Southern Tagalog, was abducted and killed by suspected elements of the 204th Brigade in Bansud, Mindoro Oriental on April 21, 2003 along with Eddie Gumanoy, peasant leader of KASAMA-TK. Eden was with an 11-man fact-finding team, and was on their way home, when they were abducted by at least 10 men claiming to be ALSA MASA members. The vigilante group ALSA MASA has never been heard of in the province before Eden’s death.
