Brief Synopsis:
The story centers around Ranma Saotome, 16, as the main character, who lives in Nerima, Japan in the Tendo school of Anything-Goes-Martial-Arts dojo. Before that, he went around with his dad, Genma, on a martial arts journey that took them to the cursed training grounds of Juksenkyo Springs in China(despite the fact that neither of them spoke or understood Chinese). While training there (his dad's idea), both Ranma and Genma fall into different springs and become "cursed." You see, whoever falls into a spring, changes into the thing that drowned there last. Genma fell into a "spring of drowned Panda" and now becomes a panda whenever he gets splashed with cold water. As for Ranma, he falls into a "Spring of drowned girl." Yep, you guessed it! Now Ranma becomes a girl whenever he gets splashed with cold water. Hot water can change them back, but only until they come back in contact with cold water. Hence the "1/2" in "Ranma 1/2".

Anyway, after this little "incident" Genma takes his son back to Japan to the Tendo Dojo where he informs Ranma that he must marry one of Soun Tendo's 3 daughters to carry on the Tendo dojo, because of a promise Genma and Soun made long ago (not the last of Genma's little promises, but we'll get into that later!). He's to choose from Kasumi, 19, Nabiki, 17, and Akane, 16. When they learn of Ranma's unique situation, Kasumi and Nabiki volunteer Akane for the position since, "You(Akane) don't like boys and Ranma's half-girl!" Well, Akane's not too thrilled with this and neither is Ranma who cares only about getting rid of his curse. "This is no time for fiancees!" as he puts it. However, the two children grow to love each other as the series progresses.

Ranma 1/2: New Challenges-A continuation of the Ranma manga. Starts after volume 38, but uses some anime bits as well.
