KAAKBAY began from a measly number of twenty four members on April 20, 2002. But these measly twenty four were no push-overs. Through them, the adage "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts" became a reality. Combining their individual talent and skills as student leaders, young achievers and young professionals to eventually produce an entity of great potential, these measly twenty four passed through and survived the gauntlet with defiance during the Multi-Sectoral Walk for Peace last May 4, 2002. Using collective leadership as the centerpiece of their operational foundation, they broke precedents, soaring like a comet blazing through the night sky, accumulating members as it touched one life after another, and eventually reaching almost three hundred in strength in just over eight months!

Today, KAAKBAY peace-builders can be found in five (5) college campuses and four (4) high school campuses in General Santos City. They can be found among the Sangguniang Kabataan and the young professionals of this region. They can even be found among the out-of-school youth. Its growth does not and will not end there. It is expected that, by the end of the year, KAAKBAY will boast of thousands all over SOCSKSARGEN! No campus, whether college or high school, will be left out. No city, municipality, barangay, and purok will be untouched.

Indeed, "there is no way to peace. Peace is the way" (Mahatma Gandhi). Enough is enough. The segregation and prejudices and hatred and violence and terrorism between and among the tri-people must stop now! A new culture - a Culture of Peace - must be spread across the four corners of this island. If not among the elders of our society, then let the culture of peace begin among us, the youth, and spread across the entire sector. Let the events of history serve as bitter lessons for us. Let not the painful past repeat itself when our time shall have come.
