TRAINOR'S TRAINING ON THE CULTURE OF PEACE
|
TRAINOR'S TRAINING ON THE CULTURE OF PEACE FOR YOUTH AND STUDENTS (TTOCOP)
September 16, 17, 18 and 19, 2002
A. Acharon Sports Complex
Originally proposed as a re-echo activity to the First Tri-People Youth Dialogue on Peace and Development which unexpectedly saw the birth of KAAKBAY as an organization, the activity was later changed into the Trainor's Training on the Culture of Peace. With Mr. Emmanuel B. Amancio or "Kuya Eme" of the Catholic Relief Services serving as trainor, forty (40) members from KAAKBAY underwent for the first time a structured program which was described as grueling yet enlightening, so as to be trained on how to conduct subsequent fora, symposia and trainings in tracing historical roots of - and sources of conflict between and among - the Tri-People of Mindanao, actual peace-building through conflict transformation, and understanding and promoting a culture of peace. This event was co-sponsored by the GOP-United Nations Development Program/United Nations Multi-Donor Programme 3, Area Coordinating Team-Southern Mindanao and the General Santos City Local Government through the Youth Affairs Development Office (YADO). The knowledge imparted by Mr. Amancio eventually gave the members of the organization the skills and know-how to subsequently apply the culture of peace to as much of the youth sector as possible in the city and the surrounding provinces and teach them how to do the same to their immediate spheres of influence. With this, KAAKBAY became the first youth organization in the city whose members were "culture of peace youth trainors".
