Vincent Van Gogh

Most people don't know Van Gogh only painted from about 1880 to 1890. He was by no means a natural when he started, but he picked it up rather quick. His art can be categorized as post impressionist, largely influenced by the French master impressionists of his time. Impressionist art really means the subject, whether human or landscape, is not rendered in true to life detail. Rather the shapes are more vague and meant to capture an impression or memory of the event.
