TRAINING

The United States Army and Army Reserve have over 200 Military Occupational Specialties. Many of these high-tech jobs are on the cutting edge of tomorrrow's technology...the kind of training that could cost $20,000 at Lincoln Tech or Anne Arundel Community College.

When I first went to the MEPS, I selected the job of 88M, Motor Transport Operator. Basically, I'm a truck driver...but that is not all. Through the training that the Army has given, I have been able to attain my Class B drivers license, which is the type of license needed to driver for FedEX, UPS, and many other local delivery companies.
NOT ONLY THAT...
the Army has given me the opportunity to become Microsoft Office Systems Certified...as well as training me in business, marketing and retail experience. I am currently taking classes for my Cisco Systems certification...for FREE

EDUCATION

If you are currently in college and find it difficult to pay for, or if you plan on attending college in the future, The Montgomery GI Bill combined with the Army College Fund can provide you with between $20,000 and $50,000 to further your education, in addition to 100% Tuition Assistance available to all active duty service members. Additionally, the Army can pay off qualifying student loans up to $65,000

The Army wants intelligent young men and women, and is willing to assist you in attaining your educational goal. When I was first in Germany, I had NO desire to futher my education...I was a little to busy enjoying European culture. When I got to Fort Bragg, however, I was allowed to go to Campbell University. In one semester, I attended four classes...12 credit hours...and the only thing I had to pay for was my books. Additionally, Campbell University took my military experience, and gave me credit for additional classes.

ADVENTURE

When I first joined the Army, I thought that I was joining for the money for College...but I quickly realized that the reason I REALLY wanted to join the Army was for the Adventure.

If you have not driven a vehicle that weighs 91,000 lbs through a war-torn country downhill at 45 miles an hour with a 60 ton tank on the back of your truck...

...or saw the sun coming up over the trees at dawn after you just jumped out of an airplane with 45 lbs of equipment strapped to you...

...or stood on the landing zone of a helicopter pad located less than 100 miles from the Arctic Circle while a UH-47 Blackhawk was relying on you to guide it in...

...then you have no idea about the meaning of Adventure

MONEY/BENEFITS

With the current state of the economy, many young adults are concerned about job security. In the United States Army, you will receive guaranteed pay and benefits comparable with, and in some cases better than, the pay and benefits of entry-level positions in many large corporations.

The pay and benefits that I receive in the Army are excellent...some things are great to have, like 30 days paid vacation a year and free housing. Other things, you hope you never need, such as the free medical...unfortunately, both of my children were born with medical conditions that would cost my wife and I tens of thousands of dollars a year. With the free medical care available to my family members through the Army, both of my children are now perfectly healthy.

SERVICE TO COUNTRY

Rarely does someone join the Army SOLELY out of desire to serve the United States of America. However, it is one of the main reason that one will find to stay in the Army. It is almost impossible to explain the sense of pride that I get when someone thanks me for the service that I give to the country.

I remember where I was on September 11th...do you?.

TRAVEL

If you have never left Maryland, or never traveled outside of the United States, then the Army offers you the opportunity to travel to over 100 different countries. The Army gives you the chance to travel to...and live in...places that you have only dreamed about.

As I have mentioned elsewhere, I have travelled to over 17 countries, and over 20 states. I spent New Year's Eve 1994 in the Hard Rock Cafe, Amsterdam; New Year's Eve 1995 in Hungary; and I spent New Year's Eve 1996 drinking Spanish wine and eating Hasenpfeffer while sitting on a balcony overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in Barcelona, Spain

Don't know of too many people who can say that...
