"Urban Jungle"

The first solo exhibit of JULIO AUSTRIA, opens at Pasilyo Victorio Edades of the Cultural Center of the Philippines on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 6:00PM. In this exhibit, Julio Austria translated urban structure into simplified geometrical figures which he then converted into two – dimensional abstract forms.

Other than portraying a chaotic urban city, Julio Austria also gives a horrid landscape which shows growing signs of decay due to lack of cohesive planning, intelligent zoning, sound design and keen awareness of the environment.

Instead of a habitable place for its residents, Austria gives us a mish-mash of residential areas, office spaces, industrial zones, slum areas lumped into one and tangled together in a spaghetti – like mess of electric and telephone wires, highways, overpasses, sidewalks with gaping manholes risking lives and limbs of both inhabitants and commuters.

The exhibit is open to the public and runs until June 19, 2005. Gallery hours are from 10am to 6pm, everyday except Mondays.

For information, please call 8323702 and ask for Onet Reynoso.
