"Methamorposis"

Having lived in Bangkok for the past three months, Julio Austria presents his recent works through his second  One Man Exhibit at the Budji Living Gallery in Bangkok, Thailand.

Julio Austria's recent works are borne out of cross-cultural references from the congested streets of Manila to the busy water highways of Bangkok.  In an intermarriage of symbols and abstract gestures, Austria manages to collate the assortment of diverse stimuli and pour them out into fifteen works of art.

Pictures and scenes from his stay in Thailand serve catalyst for the artist's experimentation on new forms and subjects such as the almost-discernible shapes of the native Thai elephant juxtaposed with the very Filipino Carabao, impressive suspension bridges, buildings, water reservoirs and intimate streetscapes.

The Artist's imagination takes over as geometric shapes derived from nature and the exotic landscape are transformed and distorted into warped, indistinguishable shapes, except for a few features highlighted by bold linearity, subdued colors and a merry mix of warm and cool tones. For this exercise in flexibility, Austria had to think of transportability, foregoing his usual textured canvasses and metal embellished mixed media work for smoothly finished, easily carried artworks.

Austria's creations are the result of keen awareness of surroundings, daily encounters and the littlest , seemingly commonplace elements that make up his life and existence.

The exhibit is open to the public and runs until April 30, 2006. Gallery hours are from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Budji Living Gallery is located at No.7 Thonglor 25, Sukhumvit 55 in Bangkok, Thailand.
