Our wedding took place on January 21st in Tulsa Oklahoma. We had decided that eloping would be the best way of having the wedding we wanted - avoiding the hooplah of the huge traditional wedding here in Israel. Since Julie is from Oklahoma, we figured that Tulsa would be a good place to get married and to see her family and friends at the same time. It was difficult to get everyone to understand that we weren't excluding them, but rather we were choosing to have a wedding with just the two of us. Well it didn't work out like that exactly since we needed the rabbi and the two witnesses, and Angela - Julie's best friend - for moral support. But we had a lovely wedding in the end despite all of the chaos that preceded the actual ceremony ... this includes being 45 minutes late in arriving due to terrible instructions by the synagogue staff. I guess that's what happens when you plan a wedding trans-Atlantically. Everyone was very helpful and accomodating nevertheless. If any of you are planning a long-distance wedding, make sure to pack your sense of humour when you go! |
