What is 'Northeast Asia Project and what is behind it?

Since February 2002, the Center for the Study of Borderland History and Geography under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has been working on a five-year national project called "Studies of History and Geography of Northeast Borderland and a Series of Phenomena" (here in after "Northeast Asia Project"). This project appears to be one of China's national priority projects dealing with various problems related to history, geography and ethnic issues in Northeast China (Manchuria) in an interdisciplinary manner. In dealing with various issues, however, the Northeast Asia Project is distorting Korea's ancient history concerning the kingdoms of Goguryeo, Balhae and Gojoseon.

Behind Northeast Asia Project-ethnic problem
There is an ethnic reason behind Northeast Asia Project.. China is consist of 56 ethnic groups. Majority is Han group(92% of china's population) and other 55 ethnic groups are minority. So There are lots of problems with that. One of the minor ethnic groups is Chosun group. Out of 55 groups only Chosun and Mongol have there independent country outside of china. So chinese government is afraid of problems with this and insisted that Koguryo was there ancient country. They are doing this to absorb several ethnic groups.
