The Peacock Struts

First the sound catches your ear
It comes from on stage and quite near
. It cries out for attention, loud and shrill
No message is contained just a repeated drill.

Now in sight, the bird is seen
Right properly dressed for battling.
Butler was right, it's driven from the rear
Like boats, and planes and politicians dear.

It's a peacock in his best Sunday dress
Appealing to the females we confess.
He rises tall and shows his tail
Against any opponent he does rail.

Doesn't know on which side to stand,
Is known to fight his own image in reflected pan.
Unable to fly except in short hops and drifting
Wings can't support with all his shifting.

Perhaps this bird's best for cooking
If not protected by those on-looking.
It's said that to present him for the feast
Carefully remove the skin and feathers of the beast.

Roast him in oil, with careful stuffing
Depends on the taste of the audience in the offing.
When properly cooked, replace the skin
Prop him up on pegs to make him look alive again.

Stuff his mouth with cotton, camphor and brimstone
To give the illusion that he has a mind and some.
Present him on a table and to the cotton strike a match
To give appearance that he breathes real fire for those that watch.

Sadly, this bird is overdone
All the attention of the cooks, cannot condone
Past actions when he was free
Prancing before cameras for all to see.

No it's all preening, tail showing and
Sound bites from this show-er of the fan.
He's simply a peacock,
An over educated shock jock.

After the show of feathers
and Dean's primaeval shrieks,
All that's left behind are the spoils,
Droppings that the intellect -- soils.
