| If you manage to to get to St. Mark's Square before 8 am, you literally have the entire square to yourself. Attached to the main square is the smaller Piazzetta San Marco, which contains statues including the winged lion of St. Mark surmounted atop a column. Around noontime, there are more pigeons than people in the square, and we had our hands full dodging flapping pigeons and flying poop. Be sure to watch out for your lunch, unless you want three pigeons to land on your hand and peck each other to death over the food. Then again, it does make a good picture. |
