Santa Maria della Salute
My first thoughts when I saw this church was, "What in the world is that huge building over there?" This building sits right across the Grand Canal from the Piazza San Marco. Although lesser known than St. Mark's, it is stil rich with history. "Salute" means health; the church was built to thank the Virgin Mary for delivering the city from a plague.
