This was an interesting sign telling us to protect the beluga whales and warning us to stay off the mud flats. When the tide is down, sometimes people walk out on the mud flats and start to sink into the muck. They become stuck and cannot get out. The tide would come in so quickly that rescuers could not remove the people before they drowned. Now rescuers have this high-powered firehose that they use to get the people out. I think it is interesting that the sign warns that the mud flats are dangerous, but you have to call a phone number for information. Better make the call BEFORE heading out onto the mudflats!
Alden took this picture standing in the middle of the street in front of Erin's apartment building. No, he did not get hit by the truck. That is Redoubt Volcano. It is about 85 miles away, across Cook Inlet. When you see all of the volcanoes, you truly realize that Erin lives on the Ring of Fire!

Here are some pictures I took on Turnagain Arm, which circles around Cook Inlet on the way down the Kenai Peninsula. It kind of gives you an idea of what the panoramic view was. These mountains were huge, and the pictures do not do them justice!
