Owner rankings are more fun for a good debate to me than
preseason rankings. Even though they're another paper title, they're based
off of results. We've had some heated arguments about them in the past,
which I always like. So feel free to go nutso on
these in the comments section:
2007 Owner Rankings (2006 owner rankings in parenthesis)
1 Dan (2) – The Williams lovefest brought to you
by Williams continues, but there’s really no counterargument.
2 Matt (1) – Arguably the worst year in league history last year, but
nobody else stepped up to challenge him for this position (except Raphy). Needs a good year this year or he could tumble.
3 Cdog (8) – Archaeoptyrex
has the right mix of hardware and a 42-30-2 overall record where he has to
go in this spot.
4 Kazin (6) – Tough dilemma here, because Mike
has never finished top 4. But he has been really consistent for a
half-decade now with putting together a good team. But man, not one finish
in the top quarter of the league in seven years.
5 Phillips (5) – The anti-Kazin…two titles in his
first two season and a freefall since. Another
sub-.500 record last year gives him a .500 career record.
6 Kaz (11) – Kaz makes
a deservedly big jump with the huge year last year, and he has a chance to
make more strides.
7 Berka (10) –Didn’t do much to move up, but
probably a bit of a correctional ranking here. Three missed playoffs total
now, but he does have two top-3 finishes.
8 Bowman (9) – Really tough to rank Bowman. He has never been that bad nor that good. He has drafted well but his good draft
picks haven’t lived up. Still, hard to move him down after finally breaking
through for a top-3 finish.
9 Barret (NA) – This is where I throw Barret in for no reason. He is a place-holder. He is
listed in these rankings because Steere does not
deserve to move up from No. 16 to No. 14 because we only have 14 returning
owners.
10 Schwartz (4) – Schwartz takes the big fall this year, and I think it’s
justifiable. He moved up the rankings for moving away from those dismal early
years, and then he threw up a 3-9 season. What’s worse, I don’t think he
did much to help himself for a rebound year.
11 Arun (7) – Arun
continues to lose owner-ranking R-E-S-P-E-C-T as his lone hardware season
is seven years in the rearview mirror.
12 Kern (12) – No movement for Kern. It’s rough to be this low I’m sure,
but the fact that he couldn’t make a move to attack the vulnerable Mich Division last year with Hart and Ore+
is another black eye in my book.
13 Gregor (13) – Really tough call here, but I’ll
stay consistent to my logic in the 4/5 spot…I don’t know if there’s a
better indicator of managing skills than overall record. Gregor’s is exactly .500. The next person’s isn’t.
14 Dupes (14) – Dupes is threatening to move towards the middle of the
league, but an 18-30-1 overall record needs more correction than just an
8-4, 5th-place season to move up.
15 Hog (NA) – This place-holder doesn’t get into the middle of the league
because he drafted 8 WRs, 3 RBs
and no backup defense. Prove me wrong, Hog, prove me wrong.
16 Steere (16) – At 14-38-1, he needs
back-to-back undefeated seasons to reach .500. Good luck with that.
