Now to the superlatives....

The sixth annual Slavtius Gbanski Award, which goes to the league's Most Valuable Player, was taken in a close vote by Maurice Drew, RB, Yellow Sub. Drew becomes the first RB to win the Gbanski outright and the second RB to win any part of it, following Deuce McAllister in 2000. Drew becomes the first non-EMU player to win it since Kliff Kingsbury in '02.

Award History:

2005: Maurice Drew, RB, Yellow Sub

2003: B.J. Symons, QB, Ed Martin

2002: Kliff Kingsbury, QB, Jesus Ass

2001: Eric Crouch, QB, UPBF

2000: (tie) Woodrow Dantzler, QB, Archaeoptryx and Deuce McAllister, RB, Cobrala

Voting breakdown:

Drew, 30; Cody Hodges, QB, Skip-A-State, 20; Virginia Tech D, UPU, 10 ; Dwayne Jarrett, WR, Bovine, 5; Brad Smith, QB, TFU, 5

The sixth annual Freshman of the Year trophy votes went down to the wire for the second time in three years. With no obvious stud amongst the drafted frosh, it came down to two wideouts. Yellow Sub gets another award, as DeSean Jackson becomes the first wide receiver to take this honor and first non-RB since Phil Rivers way back in 2000.

Award History:

2005: DeSean Jackson, WR, Yellow Sub

2004: Adrian Peterson, RB, Vernon's SFC

2003: DeShawn Wynn, RB, AESUCI

2002: T.A. McLendon, RB, Jesus Ass

2001: Cedric Benson, RB, Jesus Ass

2000: Philip Rivers, QB, Otto State

Voting:

Jackson, 25; Derrick Williams, WR, Vernon's SFC, 20; Mario Urruttia, WR, UPU, 10 ; Drew Weatherford, QB, Archaeoptryx, 5

The fifth Annual Newcomer of the Year trophy goes to a quarterback for the third straight year. While their were several exemplary candidates to choose from, Cody Hodges, QB, Skip-A-State gets the nod for leading the Ragin' Kazin to their first division title and championship appearance. Hodges is the second SASU player to get this award, following Chris Brown in '02. He also joins B.J. Symons as the second Red Raider to get the honor.

Award History:

2005: Cody Hodges, QB, Skip-A-State

2004: Alex Smith, QB, Jesus Ass

2003: B.J. Symons, QB, Ed Martin

2002: Chris Brown, RB, Skip-A-State

2001: Jabar Gaffney, WR, Archaeoptryx

Voting:

Hodges, 25; Brian Calhoun, RB, Ed Martin, 10;  Dwayne Jarrett, WR, Bovine, 10; Michael Bush, RB, Yellow Sub, 5; Jerome Harrison, RB, Crispy Linetta, 5.

The sixth annual Poo Poo Ca Choo Award, which goes to the most disappointing player in the league, really chaps my ass. But it is definitely deserved, as Gerald Riggs, RB, Jesus Ass gets the fabeled Golden Dumpster Trophy in a close vote. Riggs was the figurehead behind JAU's shocking fall from grace, as Berka gives up two first-rounders to see him crap out. Riggs is the fourth RB in six years to grab the trophy.

Award History:

2005: Gerald Riggs, RB, Jesus Ass

2004: Matt Gutierrez, QB, AESUCI

2003: Tyler Ebell, RB, Big State

2002: Dahrran Diedrick, RB, Skip-A-State

2001: Atrews Bell, WR, UPU

2000: Shaun Bohanon, RB, Cobrala

Voting: Riggs, 29; Lance Leggett, WR, Cobra Kai, 25; Robert Meachem, WR, TFU, 7.5; Mike Hart, RB, Yeshiva, 5; Alley Broussard, RB, TDCC, 4; Sean Coffey, WR, TDCC, 4; Wali Lundy, RB, Skip-A-State, 4; Tyler Palko, QB, AESUCI, 3; TFU wideouts, 2.5
