Her Career
Momoe decided to take part in『スター誕生』(Star Tanjou) after seeing a 13-year-old girl on it. She came in second in the contest with the song『回転木馬』(Revolving Wooden Horse). She was only 13 years old then.
Coming from a poor and single-parent family, Momoe was very mature for her age. Her parents were not legally married and "Yamaguchi" is her mother's maiden name. She has a younger sister 淑恵(Toshie).

Momoe acted in many movies and TV dramas in her 8-year career. In most of her movies, she would play an ill-fated girl who fall for a boy from a different class in the society. It's either she being a low-class maid falling for her young master or she as a young mistress falling for one of the workers. The leading actor was usually 三浦友和(Miura Tomokazu) who is her husband in real life. They first starred together on the big screen in Momoe's 2nd movie『伊豆の踊子』(Izu mo Odoriko/ Dancer from Izu). The movie was adopted from the same titled literature piece by nobel prize winner - 川端康成 (Kawabata Yasunari).

In her famous『赤いシリズ』(TBS Red Series), she would always fall for her half brother without releasing it. For example,『赤い疑惑』(Akai Giwaku) she played a senior high school girl who aspired to be a doctor. She fell in love with her half brother but did not know about it until she was diagnosed with leukaemia, and needed blood transfusion....
Personally, I don't really like her movies and TV dramas. I just can't agree with the roles that she played. I prefer her songs, especially her later works. Momoe's charm lies in her deep and expressive voice. She is one of the few talents that can sing and act equally well.

She gave up her career at its peak to get married. Since then, she has concentrated on bringing up her 2 sons and supporting her husband. She declines offers to return to the entertainment world. Thus in the eyes of many Japanese, she is a good mother and wife. Fans yearn for her return and are curious of her current private life. This is probably why she is still being remembered and is known as the eternal idol. Had 松田聖子 (Matsuda Seiko) followed Momoe's footsteps, she might become the second eternal idol(^.^)>?
