TURBA PALACE ("Palac Turbu" / aka: "U cerneho gryfa"? or "U tri stribrnych hvezdicek"?) house number 477
3-storeyed building, standing on the place of original renaissance object - in 17th century rebuilt in baroque style ; 1713 burned down ; in 1760s object bought (and rebuilt in rococo style) by Turba family - owned till 19th century... ; c.1922? bought (and in 1932 adapted) by Japan ; since 1964 declared as protected historic building
JAPAN INFORMATION & CULTURE CENTRE (JICC)
= 日本広報文化センター [ nihon koohoo bunka sentaa ]
"JICC" established in 2000, November 21, by the EMBASSY OF JAPAN in CR.
Located in the ground floor of *Chotek Palace on the lower part of **Hellichova street (near the high school of J.Neruda), South from the Charles bridge or Malostranske square (in Prague 1 - Lesser Town, left side of the river). JICC entry is located on the left side of gateway which is facing Nebovidska street.
(Building is shared with e.g.: the Embassy of Norway, the Embassy of Finland...) *CHOTEK PALACE ("Chotkuv palac" / aka: "U zlateho pelikana") house number 458
2-storeyed building, created after 1803 by reconstruction of 3 baroque houses (initiated by countess Gabriela of Rottenhann) ; 1812 family of Chotek from Chotkov took it over (thanks to marriage) and 1849 rebuilt in classicistic style ; 1937 palace bought (and adapted) by "Czech Sokol Organization"... ; since 1964 declared as protected historic building
**HELLICHOVA STREET - since 1952 named after Czech painter Josef Vojtech HELLICH (1807-1880), who was living here (house on the corner of Hellichova and Nebovidska)
NOTE:
After the great flood in 2002, August 13-15 : "JICC" closed ... from 2002 October "JICC" moved to temporary office at HOTEL DOMINIUM (2F, Malostranske n. 28, Prague 1) ... in 2004 April moved back to former site at Hellichova street - (RE-)OPEN: from 1st October 2004

EXTRA NOTE: For VISA (trips over 90 days of stay, business trips and working...) to Japan, the following is requested :
- valid passport (for foreigners in Czech Republic: with the valid long term visa of CR)
- visa application form (fill in English ; available at the Embassy of Japan in CR) + 1 photo
- certificate of eligibility (from Japan)
- invitation letter from Japanese employer
- working contract signed by Japanese employer and applicant
- (or a letter of acceptance from Japanese school)
- airticket reservation
- letter (in English) of explanation - the purpose of travel, name (+address and tel.) of employer,...
Visa application along with all requested documents should be submitted 14 days before departure from CR at the latest
For Czech-Japanese MARRIAGE in CR, the following basics are requested:
- eligibility (legal capacity to marriage) and birth certificates (issued by the Embassy of Japan pursuant to an abstract of the birth record complemented by the apostille =legalization of a document for international use, from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of CR - personally delivered)
- the marriage should be registered in Japan...
- to follow Japanese partner to Japan, no visa are necessary - but during the first 90 days in Japan, a residence should be arranged at immigration office...
