| Staff Sergeant J. M. Johnson Infantry Platoon Sergeant 210th USDOC Reserve SSG Johnson was born in 1966 and entered the United States Army after graduating high school in 1984. He completed One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Ft. Benning, GA in '84 and immediately attended Airborne School. After earning his parachutist wings, he was assigned to the 24th Infantry Division (Mech.) at Ft. Stewart, GA. While there he attended their Air Assault School in 1986, Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC) in 1987, and returned to Benning in 1988 for Ranger School. In 1989 he was ordered to Bad Kreuznach, Germany for duty with the 1st Armored Division. It was with the 1st AD that Johnson first saw combat, when his division was sent to Southwest Asia to take part in Desert Storm. In the desert of Iraq Johnson earned his Combat Infantryman's Badge, Bronze Star with "V" for valor, and Purple Heart for actions against the Medina Division of the Iraqi Republican Guard. He returned to Germany after the Persian Gulf War and attended the 1st AD's Basic NCO Course (BNCOC) in 1992. The next year he returned stateside, assigned to the 10th Mountain Division (Light) at Ft. Drum, NY. He didn't have much downtime, however, as he saw United Nations duty in Somalia in 1993 and Haiti in 1994. In 1995 he as transfered to the 2nd Armored Division at Ft. Hood, TX, and remained with them until deactivation. During the course of his career, Johnson has been able to secure a Bachelor of Science Degree in History from the University of the State of New York, and a Master of Arts Degree in Military Studies, with a major in Land Warfare, from the American Military University. |
