Traditions, Folk Tales, Myths, and Legends is the first trimester of a year long Cultural Literacy Course. During the first trimester, we will read ancient literature arranged geographically into seven primary cultural groups: The Middle East, Africa, The Americas, The Far East, Greece and Rome, Pacific Islands, and Early Europe.  Since it would take eons for us to survey and study all of the latter cultures and their literature, the principal, and somewhat humble, theme of this unit is a comparative analysis of each culture and their creation, fertility, and heroic stories.  I have tried to select excerpts of early texts that I believe you will enjoy and want to read in their entirety in the future.

NOTE:  The primary source for this course is World Mythology: An Anthology of the Great Myths and Epics by Donna Rosenberg.
