A causa de una epidemia de fiebre rigelliana a bordo de la Enterprise, Kirk, Spock y McCoy descienden al planeta Holberg 917G para buscar ryetalina, el único antídoto para la enfermedad. Ahí encuentran a Flint, un humano que al parece vivió en la Tierra siglos atrás, y a su protegida Rayna Kapec.
Notas:
El nombre de Rayna Kapec deriva del escritor checoslovaco Karel Capek, quien inventó el término robot (de la palabra checa robota que significa trabajo) usándolo por primera vez en su novela R.U.R.
A pesar de que Flint revela haber sido Leonardo Da Vinci, la capitán Janeway dice a Tuvok que "la evidencia no es tan concluyente" en VOY: Concerning Flight.
