Para garantizar la paz entre los planetas Elas y Troyius del sistema Tellum, ha sido arreglado un matrimonio entre dos miembros de alto rango de los respectivos gobiernos. La Enterprise debe llevar a la dohlman de Elas a Troyius. Pero la falta de diplomacia de la mujer y la presencia de un espía Klingon a bordo complican la misión.
