UGANDA
Christina Chang and I went to Bwerenga, Uganda the summer of 2000 for about 2 months.
Bwerenga is a rural village about an hour away from Entebbe and Kampala (its actually between the two). christina taught the All Nations Theological Seminary students grammar and english stuff, i taught at the All Nations Primary School - music and bible class and some reading stuff...basically, we can both probably talk your ear off about what happened...but here's a few pictures to let you see what we did and saw while we were there...thank you everyone for your support! by the way, I AM STILL COLLECTING BOOKS...i'll be the uganda/kenya book collector for the next few years...
it would take about 15 minutes to walk from the house to the school were i taught at - All Nations Primary School. this was what the path looked like!!
here are the All Nations Primary School children praying before school begins
here are the students just playing around and having a good time
they drink a small cup of porridge for 'lunch' (the porridge is on the right) - this is the only thing some of the students eat till dinner time. on the top is a picture of them standing in line for their porridge.
these are the teachers at the Primary School

these are the bibles we bought for each classroom - we also bought about 7 for the library - they were bought using money that you donated! thanks...
here is the library that i was telling you all about! the books that you guys have been donating and the money that you've been donating are literally making this school a library. remember how i mentioned that we bought bibles for the library? if you look at the picture on the right...around my waist level, you can see a bunch of black books to my left in the shelf - those are the bibles! the entire shelf on my left side (from your perspective) are Christian books.
here are the kids doing body motions to songs we taught them
here they are singing "read your bible, pray everyday..."
here is a fourth grader who is taking a test on the book of Luke - the whole two months i was there i gave lessons on the entire book and then gave them a test right before i left - there was a PRIZE (bought of course with your donated money) for the students who did well - the prize was backpacks, pens and paper - materials they don't really have.
here's an orphanage we went to - this is where the kids live (IT SMELLED so bad i wanted to vomit...i wish i was exaggerating but...no...)
now, for those of you who took nutri sci 10 here at cal, you know why this kid's stomach is sticking out - lack of protein resulting in weak muscles.
here are adorable willy and abbe - they're brothers and they were also some of my best students - they both got the backpack prize because they did very, very well!
