This was a fun show. The audience was full of either investment bankers, actors, and Pfizer employees. Whatever. The Kenny bit is in full swing now, and working like a charm. The first song tonight was about Jared, a bioengineer. Jared, despite his title, isn't that strong a speller. Next we met Melinda, a 2nd-grade teacher with a bad seed in her class named Anthony. Anthony rolls on the floor, and Melinda just wants to reach him! Finally, there was Katherine, the financial reporter who may or may not have the hots for her boss Richard. (*note to self: been getting a lot of Richards lately: find words that rhyme with Richard). If you've seen the show more than once you know that I usually ask people what they do for a living, then I ask what they wanted to be when they were little. It's usually a different thing than what they're doing now! Not so for Edward, who apparently was read The Wall Street Journal as a nightly bedtime story! It made for a nice song about a boy with a dog named NASDAQ. I won't soon forget bossy Howard, who's been bossy since he was little, and now that he's building big corporate lobbies, he really gets to order people around Throughout the evening, there was this guy, who I named "Heineken Man" (he was drinking a Heineken. I'm a genius.) who was the closest I've gotten to having a heckler. He was just really into the show, and I couldn't avoid him, so I made the musical about him, his wife, and a buddy. Heineken Man turned out to be Mitchell, an eyeglasses sales-rep married to Jolie, who works at Pfizer. They bicker a lot; Mitchell isn't one to plan ahead, and his office is their dining room table. Mitchell doesn't think Jolie walks their dog, George enough. Then we met Jacen, who is married to Melinda, the teacher from earlier in the show. Jacen sells "promotional items", or, crap with "your company's name here". He is also a musician. Melinda and Jacen have similar styles as Jolie and Mitchell, but not to the same extent. The musical starts with Jolie giving Mitchell an ultimatum and going off to work. She desperately wants him to make some kind of plan; a dinner reservation would be great. Meanwhile, Jacen is preparing for his meeting at Pfizer and stumbles upon an idea to get his music heard via the junk he sells. At home, Mitchell is on beer #3 and pitching a revolutionary idea over the phone. "They're called Bi-Focals!" At Pfizer, Jacen is doing his best to sell Jolie on a singing coffee mug, or maybe some Pfizer sunglasses. "Sunglasses?" Jolie sets up a meeting between Mitchell and Jacen, giving both men a big break. Knowing he can't afford to screw this up, Mitchell appears at Jacen's house the next day, on time, and ready to go. He waits for Jacen to say goodbye to Melinda, begging her to be careful, telling her how much he "hates that Anthony kid." |

| Jacen can't believe how detail-oriented Mitchell is. Mitchell is trying his hardest to be what Jolie wants him to be, but.....Jacen is holding a beer! What is Mitchell to do? To make matters worse, Jacen is about to watch the game! (Yeah, sure, there happens to be a game on on a weekday morning, just go with me!) Unable to resist temptation, Mitchell and Jason sing, "Watchin' The Game", and we learn that Jacen has gotten his hands on a very rare commodity: a case of Champale. When Jolie learns of this male-bonding, she's furious, even though Mitch has made the sale. She goes to stay at her office. The morning of the big meeting, Jacen is in the lobby of Pfizer with Mitch, (surrounded by Howard's scaffolding), and Jacen is giving him advice on how to go up into Jolie's meeting and win her back. After making a fool of himself in the hallway, and in the middle of the corporate jungle that is Pfizer, Mitch convinces Jolie that he's changed; he's even made the dinner reservation. All is well when Jolie realizes the prize she has, even with his problems. Curtain. *remember people, I'm making all of this up while singing and rhyming, so some slack must be cut* As for the 'Styles' section, there was a wide range tonight. There was the Japanese "national anthem" entitled, 'Stay Out of Debt', the 60's Girl Group song about being a better correspondent, and my favorite that night, the 'Sinatra-style' song about Darcy's breakup which I hope didn't offend. |
