Wow, nice crowd. Started using the 'Kenny' bit to start the show. We're going to keep it in; Kenny adds a nice sense of.......desperation to the evening, and an immediacy. Tonight's intro songs were about Richard, the psychiatric social worker who helps people with their mental problems ONLY, then there was Johanna, the ex-hairstylist who now volunteers at the hospital, and finally Mitchell, the bartender at Ernie's who loves his regulars. *note to Mitchell: I'm sorry for changing your name to Richard at the end.* Ah yes, then we met Rich, the graphic artist. Rich had originally wanted to be a fine artist, then he got all graphic. I think he's probably a fine graphic artist. Rich's company is going out of business in a few weeks, so if there's anyone out there who needs him, you should let me know. No, not really. We then spoke to Jennifer, a public relations biggie, whose clients are smallies. When they get big, of course they'll leave her, but there's always somebody smaller.......
The musical dealt with Marv, who has a boat named after his wife, Nathalie-Gail. Nathalie-Gail doesn't much care for the Nathalie-Gail; doesn't like boarding her, riding her, taking her out.....she just plain hates the boat. Complicating matters was Katherine, a jewelry designer (theme?) who takes pictures in her spare time. While glancing at another artist's work, she sees a picture of the Nathalie-Gail and is immediately entranced; she's gotta see her in person! The boat, not the woman. Meanwhile, Nathalie-Gail's (the woman, not the boat) jealousy has taken its toll and she leaves Marv. Marv is beside himself until Katherine pulls up in the driveway to take a look at Nathalie-Gail (the boat....). From her hiding place in the car, Nathalie-Gail (the woman.....) sees Katherine arrive and doesn't understand. She eavesdrops on their conversation: Katherine tells Marv that if someone were to name a boat after her, she'd be beyond flattered; that "someone's got to love you a hell of a lot to name a boat after you....." and that "I hope your wife knows just how lucky she is...." Nathalie-Gail reveals herself and forgives Marv (in song, of course), and Marv realizes that Nathalie-Gail is better than Nathalie-Gail. Curtain.
Tonight's styles portion ranged from a 20's number about Disneyworld and Disneyland to a classical piece about buying an apartment in midtown on the east side and having nothing to do. There was also the Merman number about being nice to your brother. Ah, can never get enough Merman.
