Network Manager
VEU Entertainment, Gene Autrey Broadcasting

1984 - 1985

Responsbile for managing programming uplink and affiliate relations for the VEU (Video Entertainment Unlimited) network. The VEU network was an HBO competitor, but the VEU system used local TV stations to broadcast a scrambled signal in the evening for paid content instead of cable. Management of the primary network programming source involved scheduling, programming, trafficking and personnel as well as coordinating the technical local scrambled broadcast in Oklahoma City and satellite uplink for affiliates. The affiliate network included 12 stations across the USA who took our satellite signal, scrambled it and re-broadcast it in their local markets.

Competencies:
Sales and issue management. Personnel management, scheduling, discipline, logging and royalty management. Communications and coordination with remote sites.

People Managed:
10 local operators and engineers. Unsure how many people worked at affiliates.

Budget Managed:
approximately $1,500,000 including labor, programming and infrastructure

Reason For Leaving:
VEU Network failed and went bankrupt in 1985. Started Operations position at KOCO in 1985.
