Venturing out of the art department, I explored art classes inside the College of Environmental Design (architecture, landscape design, urban planning). I was so happy to have found another drawing class in which I felt connected to the professor, my felllow classmates, and felt ambitious about my homework. The subject matter was similar to any drawing class: still lives, nude models, copying other master artists' works. We also did freehand works at home, based on our own environments surrounding us: our rooms, backyards, campus, streets, landscapes, friends and own body parts. Freehand drawing interested me because we were free to use many media, including pastel, watercolor, ink wash, charcoal, and paint (oil) sticks in addition to using pencil on paper. Here are some of the projects I completed in this course, most of which were created straight from life or duplicated from master artists' works. |
