Taiwan, 1989

While in Taipei I rented a room from a family, and taught English part-time at twolanguage schools.  My experience was a mixed bag in the end - oneof them lied to me about applying for a work permit on my behalf, andnearly got me thrown out of the country when they did nothing. The other made no promises, which was the norm at that time.

Taiwan itself was also a mixed bag for me.  Although I had many good experiences with people I met, I also had many bad ones.  Between those memories and the rise of the so-called "Democratic People's Party" (the"DPP"), my desire to return to Taiwan has diminished quite a bit. So I don't know if I will ever return there.
