I don't remember what the official name for "Taiyak" is, and frankly I could not care less.  While looking for a place to stay in Taipei I spent one night there, and it was horrible!  Since that night I called it "the Roach Motel" because it was infested with cockroaches.  That was not surprising, though, since it was filthy and run down.  After that night I was "rescued" by a guy who had also taken Chinese at the University of Wisconsin.  Unfortunately, he also was the person who lied to me later about getting a work permit...
