There were 2 radar towers on site: the search radar and the height-finder radar.  This one, which was on the north side, was the height-finder radar.  If the weather had been clear that day, one would be able to see a volcano to the northeast.  I don't remember the volcano's name, but it was active and from time-to-time one could see smoke coming out of it.
