  • The following 4.5 X 6 studies are actually preliminary paintings. I find it helpful to "think in paint" before I decide to produce a large paintings. These Field Studies will be evaluated, re-thought, some re-done and then reproduced into much larger scale paintings -usually 48 X 60 or 48 X 72. In my point of view, a landscape painting should "include" the viewer. By that I mean that the viewer should feel as though he/she could actually believe themselves to be in that landscape. The feeling should be right. The color/light should be believable and plausible. Even the temperature and time of day should be plausible. Then when one views the painting and it's believable, it can actually be a "Calgon" moment and take one away from whatever it is one wishes to depart from. These studies are only that- Studies". Thoughts in oil. I may "add to" or "take away from" - but there must first be a "Thought". I've considered collecting theses into book form, but I've been asked why not put these "Thoughts" up for sale individually. Why not indeed? Please come back to view the larger reproductions in 3 to 4 weeks. The price of each Field Study is $75.
