About the GEDThe GED is a state equivalency diploma. It is not as desirable as a diploma from students' high schools. We encourage students to stay in school and graduate from their high schools if at all possible. The GED is, however, an alternative that will allow students to further their education if they choose. It is accepted by most employers as a high school diploma equivalent for purposes of employment and advancement. Most colleges and other post secondary schools will accept the GED for admittance. The GED test is comprised of five parts: language, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science. Students must score no lower than 35 on each of the sub-tests and must have a total score of at least 225 (an average of 45) to pass the GED. These passing scores are based on scores made by high school graduates on a national sample. It is, therefore, truly a high school equivalency assessment. |
