The new year is upon us. Thoughts of spring training run rampant through the minds of the forever young.
The homerun chase to break Babe Ruth's record of 714 home runs will certainly be in the forefront of historians' minds. But most will not dispute that the contest has been tainted with allegations of steroid abuse by Bonds and other major league players.
Spring Training and, more specifically, Opening Day will be a great example to see if the race will be affected by the newer drug-testing policies and if Bonds and other athletes will have trouble adjusting to new rules.
Bonds will begin his 2005 campaign with 703 home runs.
