2006 Season
– Another season wrapped up. Adolfson
shot a nice brown black bear the first evening. I took a nice 286 pound
boar with a white blaze and a dark muzzle. I placed the skull out in my
hayfield for the bugs to clean up. Turns out some bandit took off with it
to my river bottom. My dog Molly helped me find it a few weeks later.
The skull is almost completely cleaned up from critters
and what little bugs are left out in my hayfield. I wouldn't suggest doing
this in the city. I would guess in the next few weeks I will be able to
score the skull - according to Boone and Crockett - of this years bear once
I get my hands on a large pair of calipers.
Once again it was a slow year for most everyone up there. A lot of acorns
and hazelnuts in the woods despite a dry summer. However, I saw 10 bears -
3 out of 4 nights. The average Minnesota bear
hunter success rate is 25%.
